A former Vice Mayor of Charlottesville and the youngest person ever elected to Charlottesville City Council, Dr. Bellamy rose to national prominence while helping lead the historic effort to remove the Confederate statues of Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson. During his tenure, he championed transformative policies centered on racial equity, economic justice, affordable housing, and educational access. He authored the landmark "Equity Package," a bold legislative initiative that invested nearly $4.5 million into underserved communities through public housing redevelopment, community college access, GED and workforce training programs, Black business support initiatives, and other community-driven solutions that produced measurable impact throughout Charlottesville.
Nationally, Dr. Bellamy serves as the Public Policy Chairman for 100 Black Men of America, where he advocates for policies that expand opportunity and improve outcomes for Black communities across the country. He is also the founder of We Code Too, a nonprofit organization focused on increasing access to technology and coding education for young people. A proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and a three-time HBCU graduate, Dr. Bellamy earned his bachelor's degree from South Carolina State University and both his M.Ed. and Ed.D. degrees from Virginia State University.
As an author, speaker, and thought leader, Dr. Bellamy uses storytelling, history, and lived experience to challenge systems, inspire leaders, and encourage communities to build power from within. His work consistently centers the belief that lasting change happens when communities invest in themselves, protect one another, and lead with purpose.
Above every title and accomplishment, Dr. Bellamy is most proud to be a father. His work is rooted in creating a better, more just future for the next generation - one grounded in leadership, service, opportunity, and love for community.
